Is Galliano Being Primed To Replace Oscar De La Renta When He Retires?

While John Galliano wasn't present at Oscar de la Renta's fall '13 show yesterday, many attendees saw his influence in the collection, from the styling to the beauty looks to the fantastic, dramatic gowns. According to The NYT, Galliano so expressly had a hand in the show that he led an hours-long seminar on how to tie the belts that adorned the suits that opened the show. For a designer whose descent from Dior, his label, and the well wishes of many within the industry was so swift, the beautiful collection was an exercise in cognitive dissonance. What was Galliano doing at one of the most beloved American labels? Why was he allowed to have so much influence over the collection despite his "intern" status?

It seems that some in the industry are not only ready to forgive and forget, but also willing to further Galliano's career.
