“London is the creative heart of Burberry and our global headquarters, so we are [pleased] to be showing our next men’s collection here,” Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative officer, told WWD, where the news was first reported. “The country’s proud men’s wear heritage and outstanding contemporary talent give it a unique and powerful energy. It is a wonderful time to be bringing our men’s wear show home,” he added.

While Burberry was one of many important men’s shows on the Milan calendar, the brand stands to become the highlight of London’s fledgling menswear week, much as it became the cornerstone of London Fashion Week since moving its womenswear show back to the city in 2009.

Furthermore, showing in London is much more in tune with the company’s British heritage and will surely provide Burberry with a platform to tell a more cohesive brand story to industry insiders, fashion media and online audiences alike.

If there’s one thing you can count on London Fashion Week for, it’s newness. While the other three headlining fashion week cities (they would be New York, Milan and Paris, if you needed a refresher) are largely responsible for creating the viable trends of any given season, London is known as the breeding ground for new talent, new technologies and new wild ideas that are sure to become trends way into the future. The Fall 2013 show season was no different, as the various London Fashion Week shows showed all sorts of new things for us to ogle over, question and get into. Here we give you 5 of the newest and most interesting developments out of London Fashion Week for Fall 2013.

Like Michael Kors before him during New York Fashion Week, Christopher Kane embraced camouflage’s ninth life by emblazoning it on parkas, leather dresses and even as patchwork on motocross jackets.

And with that, it’s finito! As fast as they came to London, the fashion flock has dashed off to Milano to take in a week of sure-to-be-epic shows from heavy hitters like Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. But before we get to that, let’s have one last look at London Fashion Week, where once again, the quirkest dressers showed off their street style. Amongst the zany trends, bright colours once again stood out—especially the cobalt and burgundy patchwork fur coat, eyeball printed sweater, sequined palm tree blouse and rainbow-bright fur clutch we snapped. Not to mention the Prada-esque Geta Geisha platforms we caught in bubblegum pink. Madness! Feast your eyes on these last few lingering street style photos. We daresay the rest of fashion month won’t be anywhere near as wild.

London has a reputation as a cradle of new fashion talent, with the Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design boasting an illustrious list of alumni including Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane and John Galliano.

The London-based school showcases its graduate talent every year in a show for fashion week, luring headhunters looking for up-and-coming talent to offer their labels.

A lucky few will be tapped on the shoulder for positions at top brands. But most will have to settle for employment that doesn’t advance their dreams beyond internships that pay little or nothing at all and jobs on the bottom of the career ladder.

More than one in three of all recent UK graduates were employed in lower skilled jobs in the final three months of 2011, according to the UK statistics office.
